Abstract

Intellectual Extremism is a deviation in thinking that leads to the adoption of rigid and extreme beliefs, characterized by intolerance and closed-mindedness, and poses a threat to social cohesion. Extremism results from the interaction of several factors, including economic, social, cultural, and political influences. Poverty, social discrimination, and political conflicts can contribute to the reinforcement of these extremist ideologies. Additionally, family and educational environments play a significant role in shaping individuals’ personalities and behaviors. Intellectual extremism may evolve into physical violence or terrorism, leading to the destruction of dialogue between individuals and groups, and undermining opportunities for mutual understanding.

To address the phenomenon of intellectual extremism, society as a whole must take responsibility. This starts with promoting education and critical thinking, creating a social environment that supports tolerance and mutual respect, and implementing strict legislation to limit the spread of extremist ideas. The media also has an important role to play in disseminating messages of peace, virtue, and promoting the values of tolerance. Ultimately, addressing intellectual extremism requires the cooperation of government institutions and civil society, along with international collaboration to implement effective strategies to mitigate this phenomenon, which threatens the stability of societies.
