The Third International Scientific Conference on Agricultural Sciences (ISCAS 2025)
Preface
With the participation of researchers and academics from various Iraqi universities and research institutions, the College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala organized the Third International Scientific Conference on Agricultural Sciences, held in November 2025. This conference served as an important scientific platform for exchanging knowledge, presenting recent research findings, and strengthening academic collaboration among scholars working in different fields of agricultural sciences.
The conference addressed some of the most pressing global challenges, particularly climate change and food security, which together represent serious threats to humanity both now and in the future. These challenges require integrated scientific efforts and innovative solutions capable of enhancing agricultural sustainability and ensuring stable food production systems.
One of the primary objectives of the conference was to promote the transformation of scientific research from theoretical concepts into practical applications, while also developing a scientific roadmap that integrates modern technologies and smart agricultural practices with principles of sustainability. Such integration is essential to support resilient agricultural systems capable of adapting to environmental, climatic, and economic pressures.
Climate change is no longer merely an environmental phenomenon; it has evolved into a multidimensional developmental, economic, and humanitarian challenge. Its impacts are clearly evident in the agricultural sector through declining crop productivity, increasing frequency of extreme climatic events, and growing pressure on water resources. In this context, sustainable agriculture has emerged as a strategic necessity and an effective approach for balancing present agricultural demands with the responsibility of preserving natural resources for future generations.
The conference received a wide range of scientific contributions covering several core disciplines in agricultural sciences, including Plant Protection, Horticulture, Animal Production, Soil Sciences, and Field Crops. The selected papers presented in this issue reflect the diversity of current agricultural research and highlight innovative approaches aimed at improving productivity, sustainability, and resilience in agricultural systems.
It is an honour for the Editorial Board of the Journal of Kerbala for Agricultural Sciences to publish the papers presented at the Third International Scientific Conference on Agricultural Sciences, thereby contributing to the dissemination of valuable scientific knowledge and supporting the advancement of agricultural research. It is our hope that the research presented here will contribute to advancing agricultural knowledge and supporting sustainable agricultural development at both national and international levels.
Preface
The demand for scientific studies and research is increasing rapidly. Science is in a relentless race to acquire precise knowledge, ensuring nations' and societies' comfort and well-being. A nation's progress hinges on its scientific output and the achievements gained through research that addresses problems and devises solutions to overcome life's challenges and enhance quality. Scientific research is fundamental in providing the knowledge necessary for improving the conditions that ensure the survival and advancement of nations and societies.
Mastery of various scientific research methods and adherence to the necessary protocols, beginning with defining the research problem and describing it procedurally, selecting an appropriate methodology for data collection, and culminating in data analysis and drawing conclusions, has become crucial across all theoretical and applied sciences.
Therefore, the International Scientific Conference on Scientific Research and its Role in Developing Societies was established to present and discuss numerous studies and research across various scientific fields. This conference features scientific sessions and training workshops conducted by researchers and faculty members from both public and private universities and individuals passionate about scientific research worldwide. The conference aims to impact the scientific research process and elevate its quality positively.
Our third periodic and second international scientific conference is held under the theme "Applied Research and Its Role in Improving Human and Animal Health." Our goal is to promote applied scientific research to address crises and challenges related to human health and the economic issues facing countries, focusing on enhancing the national economy through major projects. These projects aim to meet local market demands for superior animal products and control diseases common to animals and humans as much as possible.
Preface
It is our great pleasure and honour to present this issue of the Journal of Kerbala for Agricultural Sciences (JKAS) to highlight some of the research works presented at the 2nd International Conference on Agricultural Sciences (2nd ICAS 2022) that took place on November 16-17/ 2022, in Karbala, Iraq. The Conference was organized under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, Under the Supervision of the President of the University of Kerbala, Prof. Dr. Basim Khalil Nail and Dean of Agriculture College, Prof. Dr. Thamer Kareem Aljanabi under the Slogan “Sustainable Agricultural Development for Food Security.”
The 2nd ICAS 2022 is a scientific conference involving various aims: To bring together leading academic scientists, researchers, and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results about all aspects of agricultural sciences, To provide the premier interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary forum of researcher, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends and issues, practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in the field of agricultural sciences and To enable the collaboration between scientists and agricultural industry workers.
This Conference was attended by more than 50 researchers and scientists from various Iraqi universities and institutions. The Conference consists of two parts: keynote presentation (plenary) and oral presentation. There were 21 papers (after the review process) divided into four research focus topics: plant protection, field crops, animal production, and Horticulture and landscaping. The participants were divided into academic groups according to the research focuses.
We are very grateful because the 2nd ICAS 2022 has keynote speakers from different Iraqi universities who are experts in agricultural sciences. Our great honor is two experts who gave excellent keynote speeches: Prof. Dr. Alaa Salih Ati from the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, and Prof. Dr. Ali Darb Alkassar from the College of Agriculture, University of Anbar.
The Conference can still achieve its primary purpose or benefit. All manuscripts published in the proceeding have been through a rigorous review to meet the requirement of high-quality papers. The committee wishes to acknowledge the speakers and participants who attended this Conference. Many thanks are given to all who have helped and supported this Conference.
Warmest Regards,
Editor of JKAS and member of the scientific committee of the Conference
